Emergency contraception works best if taken within 24 hours of unprotected intercourse. It is still very effective if given up to 72hours later, less so after that. An IUCD can be inserted to good effect up to 5 days after the incident.

If you need emergency contraception please come to one of our walk in surgeries or make a nurse appointment if one is available on the same day. Please do not be afraid to ask if you cannot come to see us. The doctors and nurses can give initial advice over the phone.

You can also get advice from the local Family Planning Clinics (01483 576208) or the Genito-Urinary Medicine Clinic at Frimley Park Hospital (01276 604105) and Farnham Road Hospital Guildford (01483 573852).

A special Under-25s walk-in contraception service (Sexcare) operates in Guildford (01483 888122) and also in Farnham Hospital outpatient department (01483 782202) - currently Mondays 6.00-7.40pm
